FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
You have questions, we have answers.
We have organized a casual, pre-wedding get-together at GiaBaR for those who will already be in the area the day before the wedding (Friday the 13th).
The gastrobar offers classic stuzzichini (e.g. snacks) from small artisans in the Chianti region along with an extensive wine list from all of Italy. It is conveniently located only 4 minutes by foot from the hotels at which we have blocked for the event.
Where: GiaBaR

In mid-June, the climate in the Chianti region of Tuscany is typically warm, sunny, and dry - an ideal time to visit if you're into wine tours, countryside strolls, or scenic drives.
Here’s what you can generally expect:
Daytime temperatures: Around 25–30°C (77–86°F)
Nighttime temperatures: Around 15–18°C (59–64°F)
Rainfall: Generally low, but occasional short showers or thunderstorms can happen.
Sunshine: Long, sunny days with about 10–12 hours of daylight
Humidity: Moderate, but not oppressive - especially in the hilly areas of Chianti
The weather is usually very pleasant, with a mix of warm days and cooler nights - perfect for sipping Chianti Classico on a vineyard terrace.
We do not have any specific wedding dress code, but have provided some suggestions below based on the climate, surroundings, and comfort-levels:
For men:
Smart Casual / Cocktail Attire:
Light-colored linen or cotton suits (think beige, light grey, or soft blue).
Dress shirt - tie optional (as you prefer)
Loafers or dressy leather shoes - avoid sneakers.
Sunglasses and maybe even a tasteful Panama hat.
For women:
Cocktail Dresses or Flowing Midi/Maxi Dresses:
Earthy tones, florals, pastels, or jewel tones (depending on season) - due to the sun, it is advised to avoid black.
Breathable fabrics like silk, chiffon, or cotton.
Wedges or dressy sandals – stilettos are not ideal for gravel paths or vineyards.
A shawl or wrap for cooler evenings.
Sunhat or stylish hair accessory for the daytime ceremony.
The wedding ceremony and following aperitivo/reception hours will be held outdoors.
In the event of rain or extreme heat, we will have large canopies to provide shelter/shade from the elements. There is also an air conditioned dining room at Villa Calcinaia that will be open for guests regardless of the weather conditions.
The dinner after the above events will be indoors.
You can find our full wedding day itinerary here so you know what to expect on our big day!
There is no transportation arranged for the casual aperitivo at GiaBaR as it is conveniently located 4 minutes by foot from the assigned hotels.
On the day-of the ceremony, we have arranged for buses to transport our guests from the hotels to the ceremony location, to the dinner location, and back to hotels after the events. You can find the full day-of schedule here.
Bus pick-up location is TBD.
While the Chianti region does have public transportation options, the frequency, convenience, and general reliability/punctuality can be limited especially in the more remote locations where our venue is located.
To ensure a smooth and stress-free experience for our guests, we have arranged day-of transportation and recommend renting a car for getting to / departing from the Chianti wine region.
Day-of transportation pick-up / drop-off location can be found here.
As a general note, it is only a ~45 minute drive from the center of Florence (e.g. Duomo di Firenze) to the hotels in Greve in Chianti.
We are checking on this for you and will update accordingly!
Americans visiting Italy as tourists and intending to drive should obtain an International Driving Permit (IDP) before leaving the U.S. This is usually very fast and cheap.
You may apply for an IDP through the American Automobile Association (AAA) and find more information about driving in Italy at the U.S. Embassy & Consulates in Italy's website.
If you already hold another EU driving license, this alone is valid for driving in Italy and no IDP is required.
Most airports provide local, physical SIMs upon arrival. If a physical SIM is preferred, we recommend to buy it upon arrival and not before your departure.
For e-SIMs, I have been using Airalo when I travel and it has worked well. You can get EUR 3.00 off your first e-SIM data pack from Airalo if you use my code GABRIE48948 when you sign up or apply it at checkout.
Prepaid SIM cards in Italy/EU typically cost between €10 to €30, depending on the provider and the selected plan. These plans often include data, local calls, and texts.
